General Comments: sounds like mp3 distortion in the closing seconds of the reference sample?!  And between 1.2s and 4.8s?

 Maybe I'm just imagining artifacts, but I could believe the source had been through some lossy compression.  Maybe recorded on minidisc or something?  I really don't know.

 None of the samples were transparent.  There were a few different spots where the kazoo didn't drown out the background, so I could hear artifacts in things the encoder didn't think would be audible. And most of the time, they wouldn't be if I wasn't listening for them.  When I did hear them, they sounded annoying, so I didn't end up giving scores over 4.0.
